World Interfaith Harmony Week – February 1-7, 2025. World Interfaith Harmony Week is observed every year in the first week of February, from February 1 to 7. This observation has emerged from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Resolution that seeks a worldwide celebration of interfaith harmony.
The story of St. Francis and the Sultan is a moment of encounter. This film highlights an impossible encounter, an encounter that was inconceivable to many. Two men of faith, one a traveling Christian preacher, the other the ruler of a Muslim Empire, bucked a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground. It is the story of Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, and their meeting on a bloody battlefield during the period of Christian- Muslim conflict known as the Crusades.
Join us for a screening of the film The Sultan & The Saint that depicts this incredible moment, and continue with a time of coffee house gathering to discuss the opportunities we may have for encounter with those of other faiths, and the difficulties that seem to surround the opportunity for open dialogue and authentic exchange.
